CHRIS T-T

myspace.com/christtuk // christt.com
Chris T-T is an English songwriter, acclaimed for vivid, outspoken, inventive songwriting and occasional bursts of withering sarcasm. T-T songs are fiercely literate, brimful of unique perspective and underpinned by a strong sense of place. He has recently signed up to Xtra Mile Recordings and label-mate Frank Turner often includes a cover of Chris T-T's "The Huntsman Comes A-Marchin'" in his live set.
He's released four full-length studio albums, one live collection and a pile of singles and EPs. His most recent release, 9 Red Songs (October 2005), is a folk-protest mini-album. His previous two albums, The 253 (2001) and London Is Sinking (2003) form two-thirds of an as-yet incomplete trilogy about London.
Chris has also played sessions on BBC Radio 1, BBC Radio 3, BBC6Music, Resonance FM, LBC, Selector for the British Council and various regional stations, and has headlined shows across the UK, toured mainland Europe and the United States, including the CMJ Seminar in New York and Glastonbury Festival. His support CV includes Ben Folds, British Sea Power, The Divine Comedy, Elbow, Tom Robinson, Brakes, Electric Soft Parade, Quasi, Emma Pollock (Delgados), Jim Bob (Carter USM), author Iain Sinclair, KT Tunstall, Madrugada, Hefner, Robyn Hitchcock, Ricky Ross (Deacon Blue) and many others. In 2004, Chris joined the Tom Robinson Band for Tom's annual Castaway Party at Battersea Arts Centre.
Chris has written pieces for several books and articles for a number of magazines. He has composed a live re-soundtrack to cult Japanese movie Battle Royale, which was performed at Soho's Other Cinema and he's been commissioned to write music for an exhibit at the Natural History Museum.
He has also read short stories on Resonance FM, written childrens' poetry for the BBC's Jackanory website and curated an evening of political documentaries at Greenwich Film Festival.
"Outstanding. Genius. A modern-day Blake." - SUNDAY TIMES (top 5 albums of the year, 01 & 03)

"A national gem of a songwriter." - THE INDEPENDENT
"Genius songwriting." - THE GUARDIAN
"Too many protest singers, not enough protest songs. Luckily we found the best one." - DROWNED IN SOUND
JULIP

myspace.com/julipmusic
After the dissolution of the enormously popular Torgas Valley Reds, Barry Peak (ex-Backwater) began playing solo shows around Belfast, opening up at punk rock shows with an acoustic set that saw his songwriting take a new, melancholic direction. Joined frequently by Niall Harden on banjo, guitar and drums, the two played for around a year as a duo with friends like Tanya Mellotte of Skibunny (formerly Barry's bandmate in Go Commando) helping out when they could. In April 2007 the two were joined by some friends from the Belfast rock-post-rock group Tracer AMC, and became Julip.
MY FIRST TOOTH

myspace.com/myfirsttooth
My First tooth is the brain child (and love child) of One Toy Soldier's Ross Witt. Influenced and inspired by bands like the Eels, Okkervil River, The Good Life and Neutral Milk Hotel, Witt initially began MFT as a solo singer songwriter project with an unabashed adoration of modern indie folk. But, with an enthusiastic response from many local musicians (and the addition of violins and more vocals) it quickly developed into something else...something grand and with ambition but slightly awkward and unsure of itself at the same time.
Witt's admiration for musicians like Joanna Newsom and Will Sheff shine through in his eloquent and lucid storytelling, which raises the whole project way above the usual singer songwriter dross. Yes, Witt can spin a yarn about a boy with a broken heart but he’ll do it so subtly and deftly that it will wrap you up in a blanket under the stars and enchant you like the first fairy tale you heard as a child. These songs can be a lullaby for lost and the lonely or a swift punch to the chest, but either way, we defy you not to be moved.
"Simultaneously rough and delicate, MFT make music that’ll quietly ravage your heart, then give it a gentle stroke better. Killer pretty stuff" - XFM
"There really is no reason why this guy cannot become the British Willy Mason." - SIZE
HELIOPAUSE

myspace.com/wecomefrombelfast
Heliopause began with the quiet sketchbook tracks created by Singer/Songwriter/Artist, Richard Davis. They were low-key songs made up of layered guitar and vocals. Soft and haunting. Towards the end of 2005, Michael Kinloch (Tracer AMC) and Niall Harden (Iden Green) came on board and so Heliopause was formed, making their debut in February 2006. Their sound has been compared to the likes of American Analog Set and Grandaddy, and they have already supported acts such as Quasi and New York’s Jeffrey & Jack Lewis. Heliopause is still ever changing, taking the music to Berlin (and back again), with recordings planned and a forthcoming 12" EP release in the new year.
DOLBRO DAN

myspace.com/dolbrodan
Dolbro Dan aka Daniel Mulligan, is a 23 year old songwriter from Bangor, Northern Ireland. He plays Bob Dylan-esque alt-folk songs on harmonica and 'dolbro' resonator guitar, and has been busy all summer in the studio recording "Singin' Homemade Music" which is out now on Grab It & Run Records.
"Don't miss acoustic folk-minded Dolbro Dan whose musical maturity belies his tender years" - BELFAST TELEGRAPH
"Daniel's songs are simple but effective strummers with charming self-referential ruminations. There's a great sense of self-deprecating humour and fun with a keen handle on when to play it entirely straight too." - AU

Defiance! presents..
TELLISON

myspace.com/tellison // tellison.co.uk
Tellison is a self-determining unit without girls from Hammersmith, West London in Britain near France. Drums, bass, cowbells, two broken guitars, four broken voices, one wounded laptop, some extra-curricular instruments and pure, wild-eyed, old-fashioned fight. Conversations, concert attendance and an educational institution brought them together and time spent on motorways in transit vans cemented friendships.
Having toured alongside Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly, Hell Is For Heroes and Stapleton, not to mention sharing stages with acts including Hundred Reasons, I Was A Cub Scout, Frank Turner and Walter Schreifels (Rival Schools), they play what is best described as independent popular music, with disarming melodies and big-hearted guitars. Debut album 'Contact! Contact!' out now on Gravity Dip is full of life-affirming pop songs, reminiscent of Idlewild meets The Get-Up Kids.
"This band deserve your love" - Rock Sound
"Their treble-layered harmonies and quirky energetic songs recall the sense, if not the sound, of The Get Up Kids in their early days... a wonderful sense of hope, regret and youthful abandon" - KERRANG!
ENCYCLOPEDIA

myspace.com/encyclopedia // encyclopediamusic.com
Encyclopedia is a two-piece pop band from Yeovil, Somerset, UK. They formed in February 2004 because they wanted to support Squirtgun so bad, but didn't have a band.
They have shared the stage with artists including MC Lars, Electric Eel Shock and Stephen Brodsky's New Idea Society and toured with Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly. In October 2006 they were even asked by Imogen Heap to open a show on her UK tour.
Deep Elm Records included the Encyclopedia track 'Let's Be Friends' on their 2005 compilation 'This Is Indie Rock'. Their debut album 'So Hot Right Now' was released in 2006 on Tshirt Records (UK) / Littlebird Records (Japan) and is full of perfect sing-a-long sunkissed pop songs about girls, boys, computer games and being in a band. Their sound combines old-school computer games and new-school pop. They are named after the book of the same name.
CODA

myspace.com/codaonline // codaonline.co.uk
CODA is a four-piece female-fronted outfit from Northern Ireland who have bee compared to the likes of Pretty Girls Make Graves and At The Drive-In. They have been gigging extensively for the past 18 months, carving out their own brand of urgent, driving alt-rock and honing their explosive live shows, including support slots with Sleater-Kinney and Domino records favourites Sons and Daughters along with their own headlining shows throughout the UK.
GAVIN OSBORN

myspace.com/gavinosborn // myspace.com/inthetweesmallhours
Gavin Osborn drops beats like old people drop dead. Inevitably and surrounded by sadness. Folk? Yes. Acoustic? Double yes. Lyrical? Yes again. Gavin's songs mix the personal with the topical, and are essentially mini-stories about things he finds heroic.
Having performed with many of the UK's top comedians across London, Gavin has also been on tour with Daniel Kitson and his well-stocked iPod. This tour took him to theatre venues, arts centres and clubs throughout the UK and Ireland. In May 2006 they also performed a quite lovely gig in Regents Park Open Air Theatre, which (in the purely ticket-buying sense) was a total sell-out.
As a consequence of such things, he has made a record with Gravity Dip, 'In The Twee Small Hours', which is available now. Gavin has also played live radio sessions on BBC Radio 4 and Resonance FM. Once, he even played a song of his on the Trisha show.
DAVEIT FERRIS

myspace.com/daveitferris
Formerly of Kerrang Unsigned competition winners The Mascara Story and more recently, Rescue The Astronauts, Daveit's solo work is influenced by artists ranging from Ryan Adams to the Beach Boys and underlines the song-writing skills that have brought critical acclaim already. Daveit is currently working on solo material and for his new band Telephone Bruises and expects both debuts to be out by the end of the year.

THURSDAY, MARCH 22ND '07 @ THE LIMELIGHT, BELFAST DOORS 9PM, £8 (tickets available from Katy Daly's)

Hell Is For Heroes started out in 2000 on a dark autumn night in west London. In the pubs of Shepherd's Bush, talking about bands they love and hate, trading mutual tales of nightmare day jobs and discovering a bond between misfits. From their earliest rehearsals the only thing constant about the sound they made was the volume. The shows were chaotic, careless and full of shameless passion.
Their acclaimed debut "The Neon Handshake" was released in early 2003 and earned unexpected critical praise from NME to The Guardian, including album of the year in Rock Sound and the dubious honour of a top 20 UK chart place.
"Equal parts fury and celebration, an emotionally-fraught rollercoaster ride and the sound of a band searching for and finding its own voice." :- Kerrang, 2003.
The band returned to the studio in 2004 on their own label with seminal punk producers Pelle Henricsson & Eskil Lvstrm (Refused, Poison the Well). The result was an album infused with a revolutionary punch and a deeper, darker side.
"Gold-plated and with a granite core, the strongest and most glorious fuck you of the year." :- Rock Sound, 2005.
With endless months of touring, Hell Is For Heroes have built a community of deeply loyal followers that has enabled them to become one of the only genuine self-sufficient rock bands in the UK. Drawing inspiration from Dischord to the Zapatistas, they continue to grow and reinvent themselves with every new song and every show. Through serious injury, reckless abandon and a rejection of almost everything they ought to do, Hell Is For Heroes have established a track record of unbreakable resilience.

DOPAMINE THE BLACKOUT with support from:- Ninety Nine Knives Runningforcover 9 In Affect @ The Bunker, Belfast Wednesday, September 27th '06 Doors 9pm, Admission £5
..
Since 2000, this Caerphilly/Cardiff fourpiece have been touring solidly and picking up press attention seemingly at will. First committed to CD courtesy of a production job by Lostprophets' bassist Stuart Richardson, a two-track single was released by local community project Pynci. Tour dates followed with a range of acts as diverse as Mclusky, Funeral For A Friend, Midasuno, and The Blueprint and since then their constant gigging schedule has also seen them share the stage across the UK and Europe with established acts such as Underoath, The Hurt Process, Dead Poetic, Beloved and Silverstein. A record deal with the influential Golf record label, home of bands such as The Get Up Kids and Less Than Jake, followed, with an EP, A Lesson In Dying (2004) preceding their 2005 debut album Auditioning My Escape Plan. Dopamine's incredibly melodic rock music has garnered them press across the board in the rock nationals, and radio play on Bethan And Huw on Radio 1 in Wales, Radio 1's Rock Show and Mike Davis' Lockup. Consistently bigged up by their peers in the rock press, and seemingly on a huge, never-ending tour, Dopamine are one of Wales' biggest rock prospects.
www.myspace.com/dopamine www.dopaminemusic.com

One of the most hotly-tipped new hard rock/punk acts to come out of Wales in recent years, The Blackout are a heavy and intense sixpiece who combine furious drumming, soaring melodies and great crunching riffs. Their closest musical peers are Funeral For A Friend, as The Blackout take the sounds of the rockstars' debut album, make them slightly heavier and add even more screams. The genre of 'screamo' has rarely seemed so appropriate. A swift rise for this as-yet-unsigned band has seen them play shows with the likes of Funeral for a friend, Avenged Sevenfold, Dredg, Thrice and Hidden In Plain View, not to mention a place on the UK's biggest indoor rock festival - Give It A Name, joining Lostprophets, Angels And Airwaves, Taking Back Sunday, Goldfinger and Hundred Reasons.
www.myspace.com/theblackout.
Both Dopamine and The Blackout have recently supported the Lostprophets on their UK arena tour. The Blackout are now out supporting Eighteen Visions whilst Dopamine prepare for their debut album release.

Bio I was born in Muharraq, Bahrain, in late 1981... ah it, let's cut to the chase. I started playing in bands aged about 12 after I got into Iron Maiden because I thought the posters were cool. When it became apparent that the music also rocked face, I got a guitar and started nerding away. My teenage years were a typically embarrassing catalogue of musical errors (I was seen to play a ska song of my own composition live on more than one occasion) but I did play in some bands that some other people cared about. First there was a school-based hardcore / emo outfit called Kneejerk, which came to an unceremonious end in around 2000.
After that I got involved in a punk band called Million Dead. We were around for four years, from 2001-2005, and in that time we released 2 albums to 'critical acclaim' and 'underground success' (i.e. we weren't exactly U2). Nevertheless, we made a lot of friends and played a lot of shows, wrote a lot of songs and learnt an awful lot about playing music and making a living out of it. In the end we decided it would be best to part ways before we fell out and while we still had a chance of being a wicked underground band that no one liked at the time a decade hence (see: Slint).
Whilst in Million Dead, I'd started to do some shows on my own - sometimes out of necessity, say for a radio session - and started rediscovering a lot of the music I grew up with, like the Counting Crows, Johnny Cash, Weezer and so on, as well as getting more and more into my country and folk. I started out with folky versions of MD songs and graduated to my own compositions (often bits and pieces that were a little too light for the band). When the 'Deadz came to an end, it seemed like the logical thing to do to try my hand at playing these songs more publicly and more concertedly than before. I also didn't want to stop touring, so I kept going.
So from October 2005 to the present I've been on the road pretty much constantly around the UK, and there's no signs of slowing down yet. In January, I did a split 7" vinyl with my good friends Reuben on Xtra Mile Recordings, and I'm poised to release a 5-song EP on the same label in May, entitled Campfire Punkrock. Secondly, work continues apace on my planned split release with Jonah Matranga - it'll feature two covers by the both of us, and is due for release over here in June.

TWO STEP PRESENTS TRACER AMC THE DUDLEY CORPORATION +THREE TALES THURSDAY DECEMBER 22ND, LIMELIGHT DOORS 9.30PM, ADMISSION £5 DRINK PROMOTIONS ON OFFER ALL NIGHT Tracer AMC make a rare live appearance to coincide with the recent release of their second LP, 'Islands'. With the new release, the band have created a multi-layered cinematic album, with shifts in both dynamics and pace. Having mustered a huge local following over the the last few years, not least through support slots with the likes of Fugazi and Spiritualized, the band look forward to rounding off what has been a groundbreaking year for them with headlining slot in their hometown. 'Tracer AMC opt for a smooth approach, anthemic and contemplative, while maintaining a compulsive momentum' The Wire, April 2004
The Dudley Corporation are a 3 piece act based in Dublin city.
Of "In Love With The Dudley Corporation" LP, Q magazine commmented that they have 'perfected the whole stop/start, quiet/loud thing' , while Irish magazine Hot Press lauded it as the 59th greatest Irish LP ever made. This record yielded their first Irish Top 30 single, 'What A Human Does', and was released in early 2004 on 'Scientific Laboratories' in Europe and 'And Records' in Japan.
A phenomenal live workrate has taken them to the UK, America, Iceland, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium and Austria; including shows alongside such luminaries as Low, Trail Of Dead and Stephen Malkmus. The band have recently completed a 30 date US tour, and expect to release their second LP in early 2006.
Three Tales recently made their debut live performance at BelFest 2005. Under various other monikers, however, the band can boast sessions with BBC Radio 1, and live slots across the country. Their sound has been likened to The Palace Brothers and Smog, with more than the odd foray into sheer angular noise.

I need you lovely folks to come along because if no-one turns up, I won't be able to afford to buy any Christmas presents or pay December's rent. It's not a very nice prospect. So.. call it your Christmas present to me if you like.. come on Sunday. There are four bands and they are all really fucking good, so you'll have fun too. Everyone wins. Right? Right.

Yeah, so.. anyone done any of these essays?
1. Peasants have 'the apparent ability to be in the market but not of it' (Bernal 1994). Discuss this view in relation to two case studies. 2. Discuss how the concept of 'the domestic mode of production' has been used by four different anthropologists. 3. Are 'neoclassical', decision making analyses of economic life in peripheral zones in the world economy necessarily limited in what they can achieve? 4. Using two case studies, show how one might best understand the logic of extra-household co-operative labour in agricultural communities on the periphery of the global economy.

Part Chimp are on the Rock Action records roster. They have toured the world with Mogwai.
( Journalists say this of their new releases )
LAFARO make their eagerly anticipated return to the local stage after a well deserved summer sabbatical. Having carved out a stunning reputation both on a local and UK-wide scale over the last year, this Bangor based 3 piece deliver incendiary rock music which has secured them supports with acts as diverse as Scottish Domino Records favorites SONS AND DAUGHTERS, and Canadian Punk Rock veterans NO MEANS NO.
Relative newcomers WE ARE KNIVES open the bill. Having already mustered a handful of impressive support slots alongside some of underground rock music's biggest names, the band have built up an ever growing legion of followers, through their delivery of highly technical, mostly instrumental, angular rock.
Doors open at 9.30pm, admission is £5. Drinks promotions will be on offer all night.
